Alfa Laval Duracirc Aseptic Pumps FAQs:
Q1, How efficient is the Alfa Laval DuraCirc compared to other pumps?
DuraCirc typically delivers higher volumetric efficiency than traditional circumferential piston pumps, supporting energy savings and higher productivity in hygienic processes.
Q2, What is an EHEDG certified aseptic pump?
An EHEDG certified aseptic pump is designed and evaluated to support hygienic, contamination controlled processing, often in applications that require CIP and SIP. This is why many users search for aseptic pumps EHEDG certified when sterile transfer and reliable cleaning performance are required.
Q3, What is the difference between aseptic and sanitary pumps?
Aseptic pumps are built for sterile or contamination controlled environments and are often used with CIP and SIP systems. Sanitary pumps meet general hygiene standards but may not be designed for full aseptic protection.
Q4, Does the DuraCirc pump meet hygiene standards?
Yes. The DuraCirc is specified for hygienic duties and is commonly selected as an aseptic EHEDG pump when processes require recognised hygienic certifications and robust cleaning performance.
The DuraCirc pump has two rotors housed in a rotorcase, with each rotor mounted on a shaft supported in a gearcase. Timing gears synchronise the rotors and, together with correct shimming, help prevent rotor to rotorcase contact. Drive is typically provided by a geared electric motor.

Because the pumping chamber runs with close internal clearances, rotor rotation creates a partial vacuum at the suction port as the rotors unmesh. This local pressure drop allows fluid to enter the pump. The fluid is transported through the channel by the rotor wings, then displaced as the rotors re mesh, generating pressure at the discharge port. Flow direction can be reversed depending on the installation.
Duracirc Pumps Working principle
Rotor pistons rotate around the circumference of the channel inside the casing. A partial vacuum is generated at the suction side as the rotors unmesh, drawing product into the pump. The product is carried through the channel by the rotor pistons, then displaced at the discharge side as the rotors re mesh, generating pressure for transfer.
| Feature | Alfa Laval DuraCirc | Traditional CPP |
|---|---|---|
| Efficiency | Higher volumetric efficiency | Moderate efficiency |
| Hygienic Certification | EHEDG, 3-A, FDA compliant | Some may lack full certification |
| Maintenance | Quick, front-loading seal replacement | Requires disassembly for seal changes |
| Flexibility | Uni-Fit Retrofit Port for easy upgrades | Limited adaptability |
Choosing the Alfa Laval DuraCirc circumferential piston pump supports reliable hygienic performance, gentle product handling and reduced downtime. It is a strong option for aseptic pumps used in food and beverage, pharmaceutical, personal care and selected chemical processing duties.
Note for ISO2037 Aseptic Centrifugal Pump Searches
If you are comparing ISO2037 aseptic centrifugal pumps, the DuraCirc is a positive displacement circumferential piston pump, typically selected when higher pressure capability, gentle handling and aseptic sealing are required.
