The AlfaCond plate surface condenser employs Alfa Laval’s semi-welded technology for vacuum condensation. The cooling medium travels the gasketed channel, while vapor undergoes condensation in the welded channel. This heat exchanger is suitable for vacuum condensers in evaporation systems, ethanol condensers in bioethanol plants, vapor condensers in sugar refineries and turbine condensers in small power plants. The AlfaCond is easily installed in confined areas owing to its small form. Water cooling can be achieved via stainless steel and titanium plates.

Focusing on being highly efficient and compact, AlfaCond is the world’s first plate condenser specifically designed for condensing under vacuum. With its compact size and efficient design, AlfaCond has become the preferred alternative to bulky indirect shell-and-tube condensers. Also, AlfaCond is easy to clean by means of Cleaning-In-Place (CIP) or mechanically.
AlfaCond is an alternative to direct condensers when condensate recovery is the goal and when there are space constraints. The AlfaCond can be configured with or without subcooling the condensate. Non-condensables are removed from the condensate outlet pipe and led to the vacuum system.
Equipped with well-designed features, AlfaCond heat exchangers are easy to maintain and have a long service life. AlfaCond features the glued gasket, which is two-component, oven-cured epoxy glue keeps the gasket in place during any possible cleaning condition. Additionally, the pressure plate roller, the bearing boxes on tightening bolts, and the Five-point alignment system with reinforced hangers make opening and closing the heat exchanger quick, and easy without the need for heavy tools or the risk of damaging the plates.
AlfaCond is tailored for vacuum condensation. The vapor inlet connection is very large whereas the two condensate outlets are small. The cooling water connection are medium-sized and located in the center of the plate.
AlfaCond consists of a plate pack with plates welded together in pairs forming so-called cassettes. The cassette concept gives rise to two different type of channels – welded channels used for the considering vapor and gasketed channels used for the cooling water.
The plate pattern is specifically designed for optimal condensation, with an asymmetric configuration that features a large gap on the vapor side and a small gap on the cooling water side. This makes it possible to maintain a very low pressure drop on the vapor side while keeping up the velocity and turbulence on the water side. This maximizes the heat transfer efficiency and minimizes fouling.
