Alfa Laval Flow Meter Application
Flow meters are the best option for measuring the fluxes of input, permeate, retentate, and diawater in membrane filtration modules and plants. The flow meters are designed in a way that promotes hygiene. All materials comply with FDA rules, and all wetted components of the product are made of polysulphone and stainless steel (AISI 316L). Please refer to the table on the overleaf for information on float materials.
Accurate flow measurement
Alfa Laval flow meters are sanitary flow measurement equipment that allow for the exact determination of liquid levels in membrane filtration modules and plants. The signaling floats are readily visible thanks to the easy-to-read scales located in front of the tubing.
Hygienic flow meter design
Showcase a smooth-surfaced, precision-machined tapered glass metering tube. All product-wetted elements are made from AISI 316L stainless steel and polysulphone, which meet US Food and Drug Administration requirements. The flow meters are designed to withstand process temperatures ranging from 0 to +100°C (+32 to 212°F).
Flow meter range
Available in four nominal diameters, with flow rates ranging from 60 l/h to 20,000 l/h (16 – 5,283 US gal/h) and pressures up to 16 bar (232 psi).
Construction
Consists of a vertically oriented tapered glass metering tube with a larger end at the top and a metering float that is free to move within the tube.
Operating principle
In proportion to the fluid flow, the metering float ascends in the tube. Use the scale on the metering tube to determine the flow rate, which is denoted by the height of the float. The scale represents fluid flow as a percentage of the maximum flow, with 100% representing the maximum flow. The same flow meter can measure a diverse array of flow rates by utilizing a variety of metering floats.
Application
Ideal for measuring feed, permeate, retentate, and diawater flows in membrane filtration modules and plants. Made in a hygienic design. All materials comply with FDA regulations, and all product wetted parts are made of stainless steel (AISI 316L) and polysulfone. For float materials, please refer to the table overleaf.
Working principle
A float is elevated in the tapered glass metering tube in proportion to the fluid flow. Readings are taken from the scale on the metering tube. The scale shows the flow as a percentage of maximum flow (100% = max. flow). Different floats can be used with the same flow meter, thus making it possible to use it for a number of flow ranges.
